Information For Authors

The Journal of Emerging Scientists is dedicated to publishing the research and writing of high school students in all disciplines of science. It is the intention of The JES staff to provide a forum in which student-conducted research in all areas of science may be recognized. Again, it is important to stress that the research and writing be done primarily by high school students and not their mentors, teachers, or advisors. All research is expected to conform to the guidelines and safety rules adopted by ISEF. The JES reserves the right to request any documentation we feel necessary to insure the humane treatment of vertebrates and human subjects and the safe handling of hazardous materials per the ISEF guidelines.

Authors should prepare manuscripts according to guidelines established below. Manuscripts should be limited to 25 pages double-spaced or approximately 5,000 words, but may be longer under certain circumstances. All submissions should be in a standard 12-point font (Times, Arial, or Courier) on a page set up for standard size paper. Manuscripts should be in the following order: cover letter, title page, abstract, text (Introduction, body, results, discussion), acknowledgments, literature cited, graphs and tables. While this format is strongly encouraged, manuscripts are not limited to these sections. Manuscripts should also include a one or two-sentence descriptor of their research for the table of contents.
